People powering our ideas: Helena Hernandez

At NextEra Energy, people power our ideas with creativity, imagination and grit. When you couple that with diversity and inclusion of thought, you have an environment where employees feel empowered to be the best they can be.

NextEra Energy Resources Vice President of Solar and Battery Storage Helena Hernandez exemplifies just that. Helena recently joined the solar and battery storage team and is charged with overseeing 166 megawatts (MW) of battery storage projects and approximately 4,500 MW of solar.

“We are changing the way the world thinks about energy and the companies that generate it. We are more than an energy company, we’ve become a technology company, and our teammates are the company’s competitive advantage,” said Helena. “They’re the best-of-the-best, and I’m proud to be part of this team.”

As the world’s largest generator of renewable energy from the wind and sun, NextEra Energy Resources delivers clean energy across America and Canada, and provides sustainable solutions to meet evolving energy needs.

It’s a mighty job, but with Helena’s leadership and the ingenuity of her team, she’s making sure eras are defined by the people who power them.

“Our culture is very inclusive and team-oriented, and we recognize that communication and people skills are just as important as technical capabilities,” said Helena. Leadership to me means being humble and listening to my team. I know I don’t have all the answers, and if I need help – I’ll ask. At the end of the day, it’s our team that’s helping shape the next era of energy.

Helena is an inspiration for generations to come looking to pursue a career in energy. You can get into energy, too. Learn more at jobs.NextEraEnergy.com.
