NextEra Energy named a top 60 'Diversity Elite' company by HispanicBusiness magazine

JUNO BEACH, Fla. – NextEra Energy, Inc., parent company of Florida Power & Light Company, has been named one of the nation’s top 60 “Diversity Elite” companies by HispanicBusiness magazine.

“At NextEra Energy, we’re proud of our strong commitment to diversity in recruiting and advancement. We believe that a focus on diversity can directly impact our bottom line. Our customer base is very diverse, and we believe it is important to have a workforce whose diverse perspectives and experience enable us to be responsive to the varied needs of our customers,” said Lew Hay, chairman and CEO of NextEra Energy.

NextEra Energy focuses on Hispanic markets as part of its advertising program and sponsors a wide range of social, economic development, educational and community involvement initiatives in Hispanic communities. In 2009, NextEra Energy subsidiary Florida Power & Light Company purchased more than $320 million of goods and services from small-business and minority suppliers.

To determine the 60-member “Diversity Elite 2010” list, HispanicBusiness magazine analyzed data on companies’ boards of directors and leadership, recruitment, retention and promotion, marketing and community outreach, and supplier diversity. With more than one million readers, HispanicBusiness magazine reaches all industry sectors, including finance, green economy, law, accounting, technology, automotive, education, health care and engineering.
