FPL has essentially completed restoration to nearly 200,000 customers impacted by Hurricane Idalia
Sep 1, 2023

The latest: FPL has restored power to essentially all of its nearly 200,000 customers impacted by Hurricane Idalia within two days of the devastating storm exiting Florida. The company’s smart grid technology avoided nearly 70,000 outages.

Why it matters: Idalia brought devastating winds, significant flooding and storm surge across North and Southwest Florida after slicing through the state Wednesday. FPL’s restoration workforce, which included mutual assistance from Florida and 16 other states, worked around the clock to restore electricity to customers.

What customers should do:

  • Safety remains FPL’s top priority. Idalia weakened trees and vegetation along its path. Be cautious as dangerous conditions could last for some time, even after the storm has passed.
  • Take the time now to revisit storm preparation plans as Florida enters the peak of hurricane season. Preparation and safety tips are available at FPL.com/Storm.

A word from FPL President and CEO Armando Pimentel:

“I want to thank our customers for their patience as our team worked around the clock to restore power in the wake of Hurricane Idalia. We also appreciate the brave men and women who traveled to Florida to support this restoration, leaving their families behind to help us in our time of need. It’s important to remember that we are just entering the peak of hurricane season and Idalia serves as a good reminder for our customers to take the time to prepare themselves and their families, just as FPL prepares year-round.”
