JUNO BEACH, Fla. – FPL Group ranks in the top 10 among companies worldwide for innovation and, for a record fourth consecutive year, No. 1 in its industry, according to the 2010 “World’s Most Admired Companies” report released by Fortune magazine today.
“This recognition is a tribute to FPL Group’s more than 15,000 employees. I appreciate their efforts and want to publicly thank them for their efforts on behalf of our customers. Underlying our success is a relentless focus on customers. As a company, we are committed to providing excellent value and superior service to those who depend on us to meet their energy needs now and in the future,” said FPL Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Lew Hay.
In addition to being named the most admired company in its industry, FPL Group received the No. 1 ranking among its peers in the following specific areas evaluated: innovation, people management, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management, long-term investment, and quality of products and services.
Last year, Fortune revamped the list by combining the former America’s Most Admired Company survey and the former World’s Most Admired Company survey into one. This year, the survey team started with more than 1,400 companies and asked executives, directors and analysts to rate companies in their own industry on a variety of criteria to identify those with the best reputation.
FPL Group is the nation’s No. 1 generator of wind power, No. 1 generator of solar power, and its utility subsidiary, Florida Power & Light Company, has the nation’s No. 1 demand-side management program and operates the nation’s largest solar photovoltaic power plant.
Earlier this week, FPL Group was named to the “100 Best Corporate Citizens” list by Corporate Responsibility Magazine. In December, the company was named “Power Company of the Year” at the Platts Global Energy Awards. Last September, FPL Group was named to the 2009 Dow Jones Sustainability Index of leading companies in North America for corporate sustainability. FPL Group was also named to the “World’s Most Ethical Companies” list by Ethisphere magazine in 2009, one of only 44 companies worldwide to be recognized by Ethisphere for three consecutive years.
