JUNO BEACH, Fla. -- FPL Group, Inc. (NYSE: FPL) announced today the appointment of Edward Tancer to serve as vice president and general counsel of the corporation (FPL Group). Tancer, previously served as vice president and general counsel of FPL Energy, the wholesale power generating subsidiary of FPL Group. He succeeds Dennis Coyle who is retiring after 15 years as general counsel for the company.
Tancer, a 17-year veteran of the company, has served in various legal posts including senior attorney of FPL and general counsel of FPL Energy. He also has served since 2003 as associate general counsel of the corporation. In these posts, he acquired extensive knowledge of the entire range of legal matters affecting the company.

Tancer, 43, holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Florida and a law degree from the same institution.
Dennis Coyle will retire this spring. Before joining the company in 1989, Coyle provided legal advice and counsel as a partner of the Steel Hector & Davis law firm headquartered in Miami. His first major involvement was the formation of FPL Group in 1984 to be the holding company for FPL and its new businesses, such as FPL Energy. Thereafter, while still at Steel Hector and until officially joining the company, he functioned as the company's outside general counsel.
