FPL Group Foundation contributes $1 million to help low-income customers

JUNO BEACH, Fla.  The FPL Group Foundation, Inc. is announcing a $1 million contribution to provide emergency assistance to Florida Power & Light Company’s most vulnerable customers in Florida.

This donation will go directly to help customers with emergency assistance for food, clothing and housing.

In addition to providing assistance for the basic needs of FPL customers, a portion of the funds will be directed to assist customers in how to manage monthly energy consumption. By providing energy-efficient products and education to those who need it most, these measures can decrease monthly expenses while making a positive impact on the environment.

“Some of our customers are particularly challenged by difficult economic conditions and we want to help,” said Armando J. Olivera, president of FPL Group Foundation and president and CEO of Florida Power & Light Company.

All funds will be administered through The Salvation Army and will be offered to eligible FPL customers. The funds will be allocated geographically throughout the 35 counties in FPL’s service territory using the same formula already in place for FPL’s Care To Share Program, which provides emergency assistance funds to customers in crisis who are unable to pay their electric bills. The funds are expected to become available in October.

This FPL Group Foundation’s $1 million contribution is in addition to the $1 million FPL already contributed this year to Care To Share.
