TORONTO, ON – NextEra Energy Canada, LP, today announced that its affiliate has achieved commercial operation of the Goshen Wind Energy Centre project located in the Municipalities of Bluewater and South Huron. The 102-megawatt wind energy centre is capable of generating enough electricity to power more than 25,500 average homes in Ontario.

“Like all of NextEra Energy Canada’s wind energy projects in Ontario, this project delivers clean and emissions-free electricity to the Province’s grid and provides significant, long-term economic benefits to the local community,” said Nicole Geneau, director of Development for NextEra Energy Canada.

Construction of the Goshen Wind Energy Centre began in August 2014 and employed more than 200 local labourers and engaged more than 75 local businesses. Throughout the construction process, the project invested more than $13 million in local businesses.

“We appreciate the support and engagement of local businesses, landowners, municipal staff, and other community stakeholders over the past year during the construction phase of the project,” said Geneau. “We look forward to continued engagement and partnership with the community as we head into the operations phase.”

In addition to the economic benefits realized throughout construction of the project, the local community will start to receive some of the longer-term economic benefits outlined during the public consultation and construction phases such as the payment of local property taxes. In addition, the Goshen Wind Energy Centre will contribute more than $300,000 per year for 20 years to the Community Vibrancy Fund, which is administered directly by the Municipality of South Huron.
