JUNO BEACH, Fla. – Florida Power & Light Company’s fifth annual Power to Care initiative kicked off today. Every day this week, hundreds of FPL volunteers, their families and friends, will spruce up parks and beaches, paint public school hallways, build furniture for kids in need and perform many more tasks to help their local communities. In the end, FPL anticipates that more than 1,000 volunteers will roll up their sleeves and participate in 26 community volunteer projects throughout Florida.

Power to Care Week will span 11 counties across the state and engage employees from all sectors of the company, including FPL President Eric Silagy and NextEra Energy President and CEO Jim Robo.

“While FPL continues to provide its customers with safe, reliable electricity and the lowest residential bills in the state, we are also committed to the communities we serve. It’s a commitment to our customers who are also our neighbors,” said Pamela Rauch, vice president of Development and External Affairs for FPL. “We are excited for the opportunity to lend a hand to these organizations that have great needs and unselfishly serve our communities.”

This year’s Power to Care events include projects in Palm Beach, Broward, Indian River, Lee, Martin, Miami-Dade, Volusia, Brevard, Putnam, Sarasota and Manatee counties. The project schedule includes organizations like City Year Miami, Riviera Beach Maritime Academy, Feeding South Florida, Dream Oaks Foundation Camp, the Brevard Zoo, Habitat for Humanity, Loggerhead Marinelife Center, Forgotten Soldier Outreach, the America Red Cross and many more.
