Juno Beach, Fla. – For the second consecutive year, Fortune magazine has named FPL Group Inc. (NYSE: FPL) No. 1 in the category of electric and gas utilities in its list of “America’s Most Admired Companies.”

In addition to being named the most admired leader in its category overall, FPL Group received the No. 1 ranking among its peers in every one of the eight specific areas evaluated:

  • Innovation
  • People management
  • Use of corporate assets
  • Social responsibility
  • Quality of management
  • Financial soundness
  • Long-term investment
  • Quality of products and services

“To be selected to the No. 1 position in the category twice in a row is an honor and a source of pride for FPL Group employees, whose commitment to providing our customers with clean energy efficiently and reliably is the foundation of our success. Consistent execution by our team has also made us No. 1 in wind power, No. 1 in solar power and No. 1 in energy efficiency programs while delivering consistently strong financial performance,” said FPL Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Lew Hay.

To select “America’s Most Admired Companies,” Fortune started with the Fortune 1,000 list -- the 1,000 largest U.S. companies ranked by revenue. Out of the original 1,000 companies, 622 companies in 65 industries were surveyed to identify those with the strongest reputations.

Earlier this year, Forbes magazine named FPL Group to its list of the “400 Best Big Companies in America” for 2008. CRO magazine also named FPL Group as one of only two U.S. electric power companies to this year’s “Global 100” list of the most sustainable corporations worldwide.

FPL Group, with annual revenues of over $15 billion, is nationally known as a high quality, efficient, and customer-driven organization focused on energy-related products and services. With a growing presence in 27 states, it is widely recognized as one of the country's premier power companies. Its principal subsidiary, Florida Power & Light Company, serves 4.5 million customer accounts in Florida.  FPL Energy, LLC, an FPL Group competitive energy subsidiary, is a leader in producing electricity from clean and renewable fuels.  Additional information is available on the Internet at www.FPLGroup.comwww.FPL.com andwww.FPLEnergy.com.
